Air New Zealand: History and facts
Air New Zealand’s roots can be traced back to 1940, where they got their start under the name TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited). During this time they operated Short Empire flying boats on Trans-Tasman routes, and began operating weekly flights from Auckland to Sydney after World War II. In 1965, the carrier became nationalized, and the name was changed to Air New Zealand.
Air New Zealand Destinations
The airline flies to 26 destinations within New Zealand, the most popular being Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Wanaka.
Air Zealand flies to 26 international destinations in 14 countries across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. As mentioned above, their hub is in Auckland so most international flights arrive there, and passengers then transfer to a flight servicing the domestic city of their choice. Air New Zealand offers direct flights to London, Beijing, Hong Kong, Osaka, Tokyo and major other destinations in the pacific.
